It would be worth getting the knees done regardless of whether the suit is still under warantee or not. I dont mind paying extra if I dont have to go through the hassle of being without a suit. Its almost at the point where I will buy a suit and send it straight off to get the knees improved beforre wearing it. Like Wes says there should either be a suit which has longboard friendly knees or has the option of them, denser neporene and longer patches to cover you for knee paddling and lying down paddling.

I think bony knees has something to do with it as well!.

could you talk to one of the 'custom' wetsuit manufacturers like second skin or snugg maybe?

Snugg are doing the repairs on the xcel suits, so if I can pick up a hooded 5/4 at the end of the season I might just send it over to them and get better knee patches put on. I would try a snugg but they sound a little too inflexible and a bit chaffy.

Mpb, Tubes have 25% off their suits at the moment, including the infinity hooded jobbies. Maybe you will get them cheaper at the end of the season?

Nothing wrong with Mutant knees that isnt wrong with all the others! Pads are good but neoprene underneath is too soft.
Now noticed all the liquid seams on the inside of my 06/07 6/5/4 F-Bomb have dried out and cracked, anybody else found that too?

Some of the seams on my 05/06 design suit that came as a repalcement 06/07 have started to get a bit rough. And thats after taking good care of the suit as well.

Well, I picked up a new Rip Curl Fireskin from Toms in Lahinch at the weekend and one of the first things I noticed is how much they have beefed up the knees. The suit was noticeably warmer than the last one too. The only negative was that the bat wing attachment seems cheaper and lighter that the one in my last suit, but I will probably transfer the one from the old suit into the new one! One of the main reasons I went for this suit was the traditional rear zipper design being the one I prefer, over the front zipper jobbies.

Got a Rip Curl F-Bomb today as a replacement for my 8 month old Psycho II. I've given up on O'Neill on account of the fact that they refuse to address the weakest point of their suits - the knees.

In this year's model they've used a 'silcone ink' on the knees which looks even less durable than what they used in previous years. rolleyes.gif
The message is obviously not getting through.

Time will tell how the F-Bomb stands up to regularity of use.

surfer207- 01-14-2008
My 2007/08 F-Bomb is holding up pretty well actually, way warmer and more flexible at the same time longboardirl/smiley20.gif

The "liquid seams" on the old one ripped me to shreds but the new one is grand and it's been used alot, the only thing so far after like 4 months of abuse is a small nick under the arm but that was probably done by me dry.gif
The knees are fine as far as I can tell longboardirl/hang loose.jpg

Oh yeah but the ends of the legs and arms especially stretch too much leaving in a large quantity of the atlantic longboardirl/cold.gif

DaveJ- 01-15-2008
Interesting comment about the ends of the legs and arms, one of the things I noticed about the new rip curl suit I got at the weekend is that they have a strip of glue inside the cuffs of the legs and arms which makes them much tighter than my last suit.
