I've got a mate who's getting married in late May & can't decide where to go on honeymoon (the wife to be is letting him take his board longboardirl/smileslayer.gif ). He wants somewhere where the wife will get tropical white sand beaches but he's also looking for nice shoulder/head high righthanders. He's been thinking along the lines of BVI's, Maldives, Mauritius, Bali, Lombok, Hawaii etc etc. Anyone got any words of wisdom or recommendations?? Thanks

A boat trip with TropicSurf

They cater for Honeymooners if ya don't mind sharing a boat with a load of lads blink.gif

Boat I was on had a married couple from Oz

Think they're divorced now laugh.gif

Tropic Surf

They have listings of remote hotels in the southern maldives near surf as well

Heaven on the Planet Lombok - nearly went there at the start of our own honeymoon

Must say that I would recommend Hawaii, nice beaches, lovely summer head high waves, no need to bring his own board, easy to get away from the crowds at that time of year, quite a special place with a good balance of paradise and crack.

Otherwise, Barbados is a good bet. Great baeches, nice surf as well, he might be better to bring his board there though.

Hey DaveJ,

Where in Hawaii would you recommend?
I'd love to go, but always thought it would be very crowded. Now you've got me thinking again... I'd be considering a possible July trip. Not for a honeymoon though thankfully!! smile.gif

I have only been to Oahu, was there last November and then in August a few years ago. As Mrs J does not surf, we stayed around Waikiki but there is nice easy surf on the main beaches there and some other nice little bnits and pieces of better surf within a couple of miles, ie around the lighthouse at the bottom of Diamond Head or over at Ala Moana bowls. There will be little or no surf on the north shore at that time of year, but over a week you will find a couple of waves along that magic seven mile stretch. Rent a car and hit the road over there.

In terms of crowds, it is always busy, but if you are able to take your wave, make your turns, you will be fine. Just respect the locals wherever you go. Just respect the locals wherever you go (worth saying it twice).
