VW California

ya I saw that one 2.5tdi 174bhp. could get a 100bhp version new and chip it to 130 for about 45,000 I reckon, wouldn't be too bad when you think it could serve as the day to day vehicle aswell(+ If that price is anything tto go by, if you get a client they keep their price well). I think I might look at that all the same for spec and layout.

Would you believe there are none new in any of the dealerships in Ireland

Lissarda have had a few through the doors.

I think your best bet is to go to the uk, and with sterling the way it is its cheaper then its ever going to be.

Saw some class one's in the VW Main Dealer in Berlin, ohmy.gif
They had some sweet little concept camper caddy's too longboardirl/hippy.gif
There was a kind-of VW museum / concept thing there.........

I'm converting my T5 van I bought recently. They are brilliant to drive, so quick, and I only have the 130hp version, and great on fuel. Personally I think those California campervans are not practical for surfing. No space for boards or wetsuits and they are so ridiculously expensive. Do your own conversion. Its not hard, just takes a bit of time but you can do something far more suitable to surfing (place for boards, wetsuits etc). Going to get some stuff from these guys as it looks like quality stuff.

cheers Rony. I've been all over it like a fly on shite. Me and my dad bring back some vans every year. I was just keen to get rhd as this was looking to be my everyday car aswell. But the VRO are killing me 30% of OSMP because its under 3000kg and headroom is less than 1.8m Thieving bastards what a rip off. A van I could get in germany for 34,000 would cost me another 20,000+ to clear in ireland.

Absolute insanity when they are carping on about emissions but let all the large campers in pretty much for free(75Euro) dry.gif

anyone doing conversions in Ireland? Buying a T5 conversion would be another option

wes- 04-08-2008
52k blink.gif some fecking sheckles for a motor that will depreciate like crazy on your driveway or outside your office.
at that rate it would be cheaper to buy a brand new T5 174bhp and get it converted by that crowd who advertise on carzone and e bay.(6k i think.)

Theres a bloke somewhere up clare direction thats kits them out too i think, think theyll even do the pop roof, but from what i can remember, it wasn't cheap

Theoretically you should then declare that the vehicle has been changed, and as such you will then have to pay VRT . If you dont I'm not sure how it would affect your insurance in the event of a claim.

VRT is a pain in the hole.
