If your a goofy then you have to go to the otherside of the mountain, the north facing side that is in perpetual darkness......

Just cos you are a goofy surfer doesnt mean you will be a goofy boarder..i'm a goofy surfer but couldnt get the hang of goofy boarding so i board regular....

ideally you'll go both ways. i really couldn't bear riding switch, which you'll need later on. i need to 'learn' to do that now - one of my goals this trip. i think had i been forced to do so at the beginning maybe it would feel slightly less alien. (?)

i was better goofy for the first few runs even though i'm a regular stance. all about weight on the front foot.

billy the best advice i can give you is get 2 days of lessons and for the other five days you will own the mountain. believe me i went all cocky thinking that i'd been surfing for 20 odd years so it'd be no bother boi. but i learnt the hard way and got a cracked hole for me troubles.

get lessons and enjoy it. as h bru said the mountain amaze me too. sitting on a pile of snow at 7000 feet is pretty breathtaking

twodog- 01-08-2008
yeah have 3 days of lessons and then it juat balls to the wall weather i can or cant do it, it will all end in tears just as well i took out insurance rolleyes.gif

I would expect the way you surf - goofy/regular - should be the way you board -

Biscan- 01-09-2008
Both knees must be bent, and your weight centered. there might be pain initially in your thighs, and calfs, from the strain of a new stance. You may find that you will keep front knee straight, try and get out of that habit apap.

The reason being with your front knee straight whether goofy/regular stance, if something unexpected happens ie. You hit a lump of ice or a kid you will not have any control because you will be caught flat footed and off balance on your board.

I am a regular, and have only 7 weeks experience over the last 3/4 years and am not comfortable yet riding goofy. Funny how alien it feels linking turns.

Good idea taking lessons two dog, i tried to teach one of my mates by bringing him up on a black slope on the first day of hol. He freaked out, had to walk down the mountain, and now he wont even go up a ladder!

i'm getting the horn now. 45cm pow at resort level over the weekend, a further 35cm due in the days leading up to my arrival then sun. freezing level well below village level. more due (50+cm) whilst i'm there. biggrin.gif 4 sleeps to go

Next week looks even better. Snow down to resort level in L2A. You'll definitely get some powder. I haven't boarded in powder yet, looking forwards to it. longboardirl/smileslayer.gif

L2A needs that snow before you go - currently resort runs require a pair of skates and balls of steel. has had a load of rain during the day freezing at night. next week should cover it though.

tignes has around 40cm of pow now, 30cm forecast over friday and saturday (the day i arrive) then 70+cm when i'm there tongue.gif

you'll love the pow BA - all the weight through the back. my tip - go feckin fast - you need to be flying to float right up.

<edit> hey BA have just checked with someone in L2A who says the higher runs are in tip top shape. loads of fresh over the pistes, but some of the off piste a bit crusty.

Avalanche risk is still high - one dead in tignes this week. sad.gif

twodog- 01-15-2008
see ye all in a week, hopefully ohmy.gif

Have a good one twodog.

just a quick post to say that tignes is full of powder, its was waist deep champagne pow one day longboardirl/hang loose.jpg . 2 1/2 bluebird powder days!!!!!!!

legs are fucked as are cheek muscles from permanent grin smile.gif

found an untracked powder run on the second day here just turn off the side of the piste and drop 1100m vertically at a 30 to 40 degree pitch, then straight back to a lift, not even having to hike out biggrin.gif (biscan if you have a piste map or can remember it's from the grande motte cable to where the summer ski stadium is, then down to the base of the laisse chair) will post pictures (from phone mad.gif when i get back)

Biscan- 01-16-2008
Hey!
Glad ya checked in! Will have a look at map, most of the off piste was too frozen/not pow enough when i was there. Was too much hard work to get down so just stuck to piste.

Has Tignes changed alot since you were last there? And did you get on half pipe/ parks yet? And im really really jealous!

How come you did not bring a camera? Bought a sports camera thing from goprocamera.com before x mas. Ya strap it on to your wrist, great for surfing/boarding
