Dunno about the camp side of things but was in Hossegor in June. lovely spot, friendly people and good surf. We did see beginners being shown the ropes, so im sure there is a more advanced school of surf for ya

thanks for that biscan, not exactly sure where im going yet but probably biarritz or hossegor. not really looking for a surf school though, just somewhere that provides transport to and from the surf and accomm as i dont have a full licence to rent a car.

Try San Sebastian. I was there for the jazz fest a few weeks ago. You can get a train there from Biarritz for about 6 euros.
The beach in San Sebastian is great for surfing although a little crowded. You can rent boards on the beach for 12 Euros for a half day.
The beach itself is only 2 minutes walk from the town centre so there's plenty to do when the sun goes down.
The only downside is that the accommodation is a little pricey. Still, if you look around you might find something cheap.

I had a fantastic week there. Definitely going back.

sounds cool but kind of looking for a surf camp, seeing as im going on my own it'd be good to go to a surf camp as at least then id know someone in the water there, have people to go out with at night etc

Been to biarritz twice and have travelled around france for a month surfing. Heading back now in 1st week of October with my other half for a week.
Accomadation can be as cheap as 15 euro a night to a hell of a price. 2 star is cheap and usal clean in France 15 to 25 euro usaly a night.
some places dont allow surfboards if your bringing your own check with the hotel.

Transport is cheap if you fly into biarritz airport only around 3 euro at most on the bus into the centre. Train and bus allow surfboards on board no problem but longboards are a pain to carry on public transport I dont know how many times I hit people when getting my board of and on public transport. longboardirl/smileslayer.gif

Avoid the Irish bar in biarritz it's crap. The NEWQUAY bar is excellent crack, cant miss it, it's not far from the casino. tongue.gif
Bar prices at the Newquay - Pint 5 euro. Bottle of wine 12 euro

You can surf in front of the casino in biarritiz or head into Anglet 10min walk. Ripcurl surf shop in front of the casino charges 12 euro half day board hire it's owned by a New Zealand dude. you can book your board in advance has some nice Bear longboards for hire.

Try to speak French it makes life allot easier, french people respect you more for it.

Hey guys,
Im heading to France and spain in a couple of weeks until xmas!
Im gonna drive over but my insurance co tell me that i will only be covered for 4 weeks from when i leave eire! Anyone know any insurance companies that will cover me outside of ireland for 3 or 4 months?
heading down along the france coast to Spain for a few weeks so any surf or accom info would be great! Espicially hostels.
Only 2 weeks left here in work! what wetsuit will i need or will i need one?

herbie- 08-17-2007
try the AA for the insurance. You'll need a 3/2.
