This has been covered to an extent before, in bits and pieces of other threads, but anyway.........

So presuming that most people on here primarily longboard, I was curious as to what LBI'ers use when the waves get a bit bigger and hollower.
Not talking gun conditions but waves with a bit of grunt where theres a good chance of getting barrelled or being able to throw a bit of spray.
You know those days where the average surfer can still be comfortable but being on a longboard becomes a liability, not being able to duck dive or pull into those tight hollow pockets.
I'm talking fish, eggs, potatoe chip short boards, big boy short boards, super thinned out and rockered longboards?
Thrusters, quads, bonzers, twins, singles, whatever???

Also interested to hear opinions of those who ride non longboards most of the time.
And I'm sure there are lads who ride trad logs whatever the conditions, and fair play to ye! longboardirl/smileslayer.gif

9'1" progressive pintail longboard. thruster set up. for me its my favorite board but i will say in hollower, up the west surf, the same shape but with a 2+1 set up would be a dream cool.gif

When it gets nasty...I ride my 9'0" Spider 2+1 setup it has sharp rails, is super thin and lightweight.....not too much rocker so catches anything........ it goes like a dream longboardirl/smileslayer.gif

I find it's just nicer to be able to get out of tricky situations and the added bonus of not getting dragged as far after a wipeout and being able to get out back easily longboardirl/smiley20.gif

i surf a 6'5" wide round pin most of the time (up to say 2 1/2xhh) i've a 6'10" round pin, then a 7'6" pin.

Ever day is a longboard day. longboardirl/surfing.gif
Got a lose fit log recently 9'6 single fin needs a different fin for bigger days. Only have had it head plus.
Most days now I surf Chapter 9'2, 2+1 pintail setup. Excellent all round board, Nose rides no problem and would turn on a 5 cent.
When I was in Oz a few years ago I got a Blue surf board, made locally in Manley could not pass it up only used the once $320 its 7'6 like across between short board rails and rides like a longboard. Unreal board. I think Tiki sell them now.

I have a performance 9'2" that I like for bigger stuff, say over head and fast. But I will also take out the smaller minimals / fatboy jobbies every now and then for a bit more flexibility. A rare board to hit the water is my 7'7" gun (fair bit of volume, but very fast), but when I do ride it, it's a blast.

Hmmm so progressive longboards seem to be by far the most popular.

So questions for the lads on the HP longboards:
What overall width have you got on the board and can you duckdive it?
And if you can duckdive it, is it a proper duckdive or kind of damage limitation?
And also if you can duckdive it, are you a fat bastard!?! tongue.gif
Do you still atempt to noseride on these boards on solid waves?

Mpb, do you not find on your 6'2'' that having your face hanging over the front of the board is more than a little disconcerting when taking a decent sized drop, having been on a longboard previously?

I'm looking at getting a board for the days in question.
Right now I'm 50/50 between the progressive LB or a fatboy shortboard, 7' x 20'' x 2.5, so any thoughts on that are welcome.........

Apologies for the questionaire sounding post rolleyes.gif

My 9'0" is 20.5" wide rolleyes.gif
It's possible to duck it...........but to be honest it's too much effort unless your this guy

A well executed turtle roll is faster and by-far the less tiring option smile.gif
