....so i'm building a longboard, 9'6", squash tail, single fin

where does the fin go? I have a '8inches from the tail' in my head but i have no idea where i got that from. Any ideas?

And while i think about it, any boardmakers out there (Glide?) who could gimme an estimate of how much resin to make up per coat? again i have 400g in my head but that might have come from a dream.

Picked a good week to build a board - loving it, but might have to get a sail for it if this weather holds rolleyes.gif

Cheers glide, I would have given you a bell when i was back in dublin for the weekend but i only read your post when i got back up north, at which point cross border phonecalls become too expensive for my now empty pockets.

anyway got the bottom and deck lams on now, it went reasonably ok, hadn't got enough resin mixed for the bottom so the laps ended up a little dry, then the resin went off real quick this avo when i was doing the deck coat = stress.

pretty good first attempt though and my biggest annoyance seems to be dirt getting on the cloth. used green sandpaper to sand the lap and now there's green everywhere......

anyway, so its just a sand coat and final gloss coat to go now

installing the fin box is a bit daunting too, i'm gonna do this between sand and gloss coats - is this right?

strips of glass in the fin box hole for strength?

I need sleep,

I need sleep,

did you do a cheater coat on the laps? stops the sandpaper sticking to it!

if the laps are a bit dry just mix up a bit more lam and brush it on it will soak in.

put in the box once the board is hotcoated, put a piece of cloth in the hole, and make sure you dam the sides as it will run everywhere!!

enjoy

so you have just laminated the deck and bottom not hotcoated?

if so mix u a small batch of hotcoat and brush your laps to the rail with it let it go off this is a cheater coat just sand away, sandpaper wont gum up and leave a shitty mess!! wink.gif

then hoat coat as normall
