DrAL- 03-10-2008
so I'm going to build myself a longboard over the easter holidays.

I'm gonna keep it simple, no colour - more important things to worry about, but I was thinking about puttin' a couple of graphics on it. Just by printing stuff on rice paper and putting it under the cloth.

I read about an old Irish surf board company who used to put shamrocks on the boards so I thought that might be cool. I've been searching the feckin' interweb for weeks looking for a nice shamrock and I've just clicked the 'surf shop' link here and found two lovely looking ones.

but now my question is do yis all have them on yer boards? is it 'sooo last summer'? will I be bullied in the car park up in Portrush? will the copyright man get me?

anyone have pics of boards with shamrocks on them?

quick before the resin sets!!

Hmmmm bit Aer Lingus-y looking, no?

Also people might think you were like this lad....

the shamrock was used on afew things - i have a car sticker from the 72 Euros in Lahinch which featured a shamrock. The Surf Club of Ireland (Bray) used a shamrock. Cavey and Steadman boards might have? I personally think the shamrock is a great logo/symbol

Someone once told me that the Balinese believe you should never put green on a board as it symbolises bringing the land into the sea, which um, pisses the Gods off. They claimed that whenever a surfer drowns in Bali it's coz they had green on their board or their person. longboardirl/hippy.gif

I'm screws so, my stick is green!

But I don't think Kevin Cavey would be after you for copyright, just do it the shamrock is an Irish image, can't see anybody owning it

Yeah the Balinese would freak out if they saw you with either a green board or wearing green boardies in the sea. It's to do with some female goddess of the sea, I can't remember the story.
I was out there ten years ago and got friendly with a local surfer who had told me of an aussie surfer who had been out in the water the day before surfin' in green boardies. The Indos freaked out with him telling him to go in as it would bring bad luck etc.
Yer man paid no attention and as a sea snake swam harmlessly by this guy decided to "play" with it.......... twenty seconds later this dude is hunched over his board. By the time they got him to shore he was dead.
True story.

Kevin Naughton surfs with a shamrock decal on one of his boards, check out the surfari they did about two years back.

I'm F*&%@d so, I've got 3 green boards. I'll never make it to Bali so I'm not too worried.

My latest green board - well that goes so good and looks so cool I'd rather cut off me goolies than part with it.

Might be about time for that with the amount of sprogs you've produced - stop that production line and you might be able to buy even more green boards

funny that, my granny thinks green is fierce unlucky and freaks out if you wear it, drive a green coloured car, paint anything green and starts going on about all the bad luck you will have..and she is not a Balinese surfer...
