Anybody know if Hess surfboards can be gotten in this country. Read about them in the Surfers Path and his quads look feckin gorgeous.

I am not sure if anyone is importing at the moment but I had thought of ordering and picking up in Cali on one of my trips to the states....that said there are some other options that might open up.
also if you want my buddy in oregon might be able to figure out a way to get one here as he has two in his shop at the moment.....both too small for me.)

We import for Danny Hess - spoke with him last week and his current lead times are 7 months for custom orders - He's in HUGE demand at the moment - so if you know where there are some (other than custom orders through us) then that'll be your best bet for one before June 2008. Lovely boards pretty pricey though. If you want me to look into more options for you just mail me tim@perfecttrim.co.uk and I'll see what we can do....might be able to jump the waiting list.

Hi, Speaking of quads. I'd like to get new fins for my quad fish to experiment. What's the fundamental difference between (beside the color):
and this

The Speed Dialler is essentially a Keel fin split in two and will have fish like properties. The others are thruster influenced. How differently they ride depends on their placement. This is critical in a quad set up. They are not as interchangeable as as a thruster.
One measurement I have found useful for quads (Not Twinzers) in to have the rear fin leading edge 65.65% of the distance of the leading edge of the front fin to the tail. The fin base length therefore becomes critical.
I like cutaway in the larger leading fin which reduces the base and makes it looser while a more upright rear fin helps drive.
Just one thing to be aware of for anyone bidding on that speed dialler. The Pavel quads have a lot less volume than a standard fish size for size, and are quite foiled out at the nose and tail. They are a bit closer to a shortboard in terms of volume distribution than a traditional fish.

Surfed a 5'8 Beachbeat Bullet Quad at Popoyo borrowed off a guy from Cornwall, loose with lots of drive, nearly fell off on my first wave I dropped in so fast but didn´t get a full session on it so can't really give a final thumbs up or down about this board, thought it was an ok board on the few waves I got on it before I had to hand it back but would be interested in trying out the more traditional fish shape quad set up

been surfing a 5'8 surftech twinnie the last few months. the speed and looseness is a lot of fun esp. on clean shoulder to head high waves. thought the surftech version would be a lot different to a foam + glass but still has a lot of feel to it. definitely want to pick up a quad for the added bite on cutbacks and snaps. but the speed you generate off of these shapes really is a lot of fun
btw does anyone know of any movies based on these board types? there is some in Litmus and Tubular Swells has a lot of great 70s style surfing (Richards is a legend)
