Did you give up on the idea of the Stedman Glyder, Enygma?

Thats very interesting. I'm looking for a shortboard with plenty of volume for relatively heavy surf, have been looking seriously at one of these:

I would be interested to see a picture of the quad that Curren was surfing.

I guess you could always contact the shaper.

I think I read somewhere that it's featured in the Search 2 video too.
They reckon that a quad setup is more effective in larger surf too. It kind of goes against the whole gunny shape with the pulled in tail though.

I haven't given up on the Glyder just yet, I had a look at a 6'2 recently and was very impressed but I'd really want it as a quad fin. It's very similar to an old thruster I have that I took out the other night and was just wishing it had a quad fin setup.

I might contact them and see what the story is, if they can get one made up. I'm really impressed by this McKee guy though, seems to be into his quads.

talked to Murray Bourton (Pipedreams) about quads. he reckons they're good -mind you he was trying to sell me 2 of them. also talked to Johnny purton (JP surfboards) and he reckoned they were ok, but not a replacement for a thruster - they don't surf in the pocket as well. his comment were that a good quad sits halfway between a twinnie and a thruster in most respects. loads of tow boards are now quads.

thinking about it - who does bruce mckee shape for these days - don't think he's at pukas these days. unsure.gif

Here's a great vid of some small wave Quad surfing, shows the speed with just one pump and how easy it is to throw a bit of spray with one.

A lot of big wave boards now use quads. I'm not sure why, those waves give plenty of speed. I guess it may be about the extra stability that the rail fins give down the line and in the barrell.

Quad Vid

I may be forced to sell a 5'10" quad, as I made a copy and it surfs as well as the original.

I have to order 2 boards from Icons rolleyes.gif seeing as the second is freight free - trying to stop myself but I just can't.

talking of quads, I've just gotten a 6'0 quad fish and I'm wondering about fin setup...I've taken a big jump in lenght from my previous board, so I'm guessing the keeping it as a quad rather than twin will keep it steadier for me while I get used to it?
but in terms of fins for quad fish can anyone recommend any?

I use http://www.proboxhawaii.com/ quad fins on my boards,

I found the Hannelai fins really loose and fast

and I have also been using the HF

in bigger stuff lately which are really smooth. They are probox fit bit a simple adjustment with a hacksaw and they fit FCS also.
