You would think that there would be plenty of them around northern spain, might be worth thinking about that next time your out, dont go getting paranoid though, although just because you cant see them doesnt mean that they arent there, or maybe they are just about to hit you from underneath and tear you to bits, but again, dont go getting paranoid.........

nah, they get their fill around supertubes and the lisbon area so dont have to travel any futher north. in saying that remember the mako that was caught off the kerry coast a couple of years back see below
Introduction: The Shortfin Mako Shark is found but rarely caught on a regular basis in Irish oceanic waters. It may show up in the late summer, given it is a tropical and temperate water species. The Shortfin Mako only the thrid species in Irish waters capable of exceeding 450 kgs (1000 lbs) in weight, the others being the Thitail Thresher Shark and the Blue Fin Tuna (aka Tunny). The Mako is considered the fastest swimming shark in the world. It will leap out of the water when hooked but it is also responsible for loss of life, including unprovoked attacks on swimmers and boats. These massive sharks are rarely found in waters less than 16 degrees celcius, so you would be advised to seek them in deeper waters around the south and west coasts after July. These predators follow the Gulf Stream across the Atlantic. Irish oceanic waters, from Wexford around up to Donegal can reach 16 celcius by June and will stay at or above this temperature right the way through to as late as November.

Record 16ft Thresher Sells for £255 But Causes £500 Damage
The world's biggest thresher shark ever caught - weighing a whopping 1,124lb or just over 80 stone - was sold at auction for just 23p a pound. Stunned fisherman Roger Nowell caught the monster shark by accident as he fished for squid off Land's End. The 16ft thresher weighed a massive 510kg, eclipsing the previous record of 363kg caught in New Zealand in 1981.
Mr. Nowell hauled in the giant shark and took it straight to Newlyn Fish Market in Cornwall where it was put up for sale but despite attracting around 20 prospective buyers, it was sold to fish merchant Julian Smart for just £255.
According to Mr. Smart the shark is too large to sell easily yet he was the only person prepared to take it on - despite the £400 cost of moving it. The fish is big enough to make nearly 3,000 fish suppers - but it sold for less than the cost of the chips to go with it.
Mr. Smart, of Smarts Prime Fish, Penzance, said: "It might sound like a bargain at 50p a kilo but by the time I've packed it, iced it and brought a lorry down, it'll cost me about £400 just to get it to the yard. I wouldn't normally buy such a big one - they are so hard to shift. But I heard about this and I thought I'd take a punt."
About one third of the total length of a thresher shark consists of its tail which it uses to stun shoals of mackerel and herring before devouring them. Unless someone buys it to stuff and hang on their wall, the enormous creature will be carved up and sold for shark steaks.
Mr. Smart said: "Other species are used for shark's fin soup and I don't think there is any value in its hide. But they do make very good eating."
Mr. Nowell and his crewmate Joe Crowe had just lowered their trawl net hoping for a haul of squid and John Dory when something began rocking the Imogen, their 40ft fishing boat.
Mr. Nowell said: "We'd only been out for a few minutes and we bought the net up to have a look. There was no squid but this massive shark - it was the biggest one I'd ever seen. It was fairly alarming.
"It was still alive but had almost drowned in the nets and as soon as it landed on deck it thrashed around like crazy. It caused around £500 worth of damage to the hydraulics, it was that heavy.
"Me and Joe just looked at each other and I said, 'I'd better call somebody'. I knew we'd need some help with this one." Darren Payne, an auctioneer at the fish market, took his forklift truck down to the quayside expecting to unload a largish shark. What he found was the biggest shark he had ever seen. It took four men and the fork lift to manoeuvre the majestic silver giant into the market hall.
Mr. Crowe admitted they were "gutted" that it sold for only £255. "I've known smaller ones sell for £600. At least we're in the record books so it's fame rather than fortune, I suppose."
The previous largest thresher on record weighed 953lb and was landed off Hawaii in 2007. The previous British record was for an 882lb (400kg) shark caught off Mevagissey in Cornwall in October.

Found a small blue washed up on a local beach last summer. Wasn't very big or threatening looking until I took a look in its' mouth. Rows of small razor sharp teeth. One bite from that thing and you'd be seriously shredded. Really wouldn't like to meet a big one in the water.
