The wifes car is due its NCT - theres a small pea sized mark in windscreen - not cracked. Is this failable?

Put it through is the best bet, and see how it goes! If its a fail, drive down the road, break it, and ring your insurance - windscreen cover is often given and sometimes does affect your no claims bonus, and potentially doesnt cost you anythig to replace - Id check your insurance details before breaking it though

Where is the mark?, if its on the passenger side of the screen you might get away with it.

Cant you just get a fly and squash it in, thereby concealing the mark?.

ya, line of sight marks that are the problem. i had a bad chip on passengers side and it passed. risk it and put the car through, if you got cover you can get it done afterwards. NCT is a joke anyway, windscreen will be least of your worries, prob fail on something else really obscure anyway.

What's an NCT
I've never had one nor have I heard of anybody getting busted for not having one and anytime I get stopped at a checkpoint they just check tax & insurance. Last week they even waved my through with my log in the car which surprised me.
I have read my insurance policy cover to cover and nowhere does it mention by not having an NCT that my coverage would be void.
Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll do something about it.

you can get done for it. there is a case coming up in clare i think where a local garda is bringing a judge to court for no NCT. as you can imagine it is not going down too well. i was summonsed for none, but tbh it has to be a right c**t of a garda to do it (and he was ), more hassle than its worth. most of the corp guys in kerry wouldn't unless you are a boy racer /trouble maker.

i had a tiny chip in mine just rang the insurance company and they arranged it free, they dont charge or raise your insurance unless you have a windscreen done more than once ever few years.

First off, if you crash and someone is injured you'll be up shit creek. It'll be deemed you where driving with a un-road worthy vechile and could end up charged with dangerous driving or worse

Same works with your insurance, the company could just point to lack of NCT and you'll either get contributory negligence or they could just void your contract
