Just as a matter of interest for those who've been there before in those sort of conditions, what will 4.2m at 15/16 secs translate to down there? And where do you go to run and hide from that when you've got a girlfriend in tow who doesn't like anything overhead? laugh.gif

Head to banana beach for an easy session.

For you, Killers and Anka's should be going off.

When I went the period was 18 secs and the size fairly similiar, which resulted in DOH sets at most of the points. Boilers looked a bit too sketchy under those conditions.

Immousane would also be a good choice for both of you. The missus can stick to the inside (and still get long rides) and you can climb over and get in the other side of the harbour wall, pick up a bomb and get a guaranteed incredibly long ride.

Just make sure you take your time, watch a few others get in, and see the easiest route. I mistimed and ended up on my board, and my board on bare rock as it sucked dry.

Also, dont take sweets of any strangers, and refuse any offers to see puppies.

mmmmmmm, killers

I wouldnt worry too much about it - its gradually building over the course of the week so you'll be getting used to more size as the week goes on! Thats a sweet looking forcast

At that size it won't be safe to be in the country!! I seen Anchors at 2.7m and 16 seconds and it was solid double overhead (page 3 and 4 of this). Immosuanne will be unreal at that size. According to our guides (one was from Immosuanne) on a sizey swell at just before low tide it will have barrels, rippable walls, the works, all combined into a 1km plus ride. Try and get shots/video of yourself that day man. It could be one for the grandkids!!

I think the swell direction will have a lot to do with it. I expected it to be bigger when I went, dont get me wrong, I was quite happy to have it at that size, but with the forecast at the time we thought it would be pretty much maxed out. Whereas when sponger went the swell was a good bit smaller, but still resulted in sizeable conditions.

Some of the swell lines hit Ankas and peeled all the way down past hash point, but there were a number of closeout sections in between. Again, maybe with a better swell angle it would have been makeable.

If you get bored of hassling for waves on the main point at ankas, go a bit further down, there is a real hollow section there. ph34r.gif

that inside section is alot of fun alright! - check out Panoramas up to just overhead, will be a little crowded, but it throws on take off, dont fcuk up, or it'll be though the rocks with ya! My favourite wave when I was there

Sounds like the surftech would be the one to bring out to that wave. The Fireball is still curing after its last overhaul so I promised I'd be good to her tongue.gif

I took the fireball and fish, but mainly rode the fish. Next time I travel I'm only going to bother taking the fish, I found the longboard too much hassle.

In what respect? Just getting around with it or getting it out back, or a little from column A and a little from column B?

I'm expecting to be mostly on the McT but I might get a rude awakening during the paddle-out on Wednesday laugh.gif

Definitely a pain in the arse to be travelling with. Had some good waves on it, but with the size and everything, I was concerned a lot of the time about taking out others inside me on a wipe out.

I definitely wouldnt have felt comfortable surfing a longboard at ankas at the size I did, too crowded, and too hassly.

Was more than happy riding my fish, and I think the other surfers were as well biggrin.gif

I think I'll be as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit over there then when they see me paddling out on a 9'3 biggrin.gif

Ah sher I'll see how it goes but if it's too sketchy I'll downsize to the 6'6 - begrudgingly dry.gif

DaveJ- 03-06-2008
problem I found when deciding on travel board was whether I could hop on the bus with it! deffo not the long board, I generally take my 7'2"

Man it sucks to be back in a way that I never thought possible. Transitioning from 28oC to 2oC is just too much of an ask. longboardirl/cold.gif longboardirl/cold.gif longboardirl/cold.gif

Despite not getting any truly epic conditions in Morocco the trip was enjoyable and is one I'd recommend, although if I was to go again it'd be earlier in the season so that some juice is guaranteed.

I don't know where that 4.2m @17secs ended up but it was nowhere to be seen down there. Everyone was looking forward to 'Big Wednesday' but it never materialised. That particular day after checking some of the spots around town we headed to Immsouane but the swell was too north so it wasn't breaking from the pier and holding up to the beach. Got a few decent rides there all the same though. Headed back up there another two times but it's 1km rides remain an elusive dream. The place is very tide dependant. If you're heading there you should aim to be there 2 hours before low.

Hash Point was just in front of our apartment so that was surfed a few times for the novelty factor but I found it to be a fairly poor wave.

Banana Beach was surfed 3 or 4 times and became a favourite of my girlfriend due in no small way to some monster drops she made there.

The morning I surfed Killers I'd paddled from town up to Anka's thinking it was surfable but arrived to find it a bit pants so I stroked on up for Killers and got some mackin head high rides on the outer peak, one or two which held up to the inside and threatened to hollow out but never did.

That evening I went back to Anka's and had my best session of the trip there followed by tea & doobs with some friendly German lads staying in the apartment just at the point there...what a view they had.

Mysteries seems to be the Spanish Point of Taghazout. Good on it's day but predominantly dumpy closeout shorebreak. If you wanted crowds and peanuts that was the place to be.

The closest to getting shacked was at The Left, but instead of a view I ended up with a dinged rail after a blatant drop-in by one of the local groms. If you're sick of rights (which I was) then it's worth checking out.

Boilers was checked a few times but as mpb said previously, the entry/exit combo didn't justify suiting up.

Driving over there is great fun. I lost count of the number of grand taxi's I played chicken with. Road markings mean nothing over there, particularly if your a bus. Tailgating is the norm and if the guy in front of you is even a millisecond late at a traffic light you get to stand on your horn for 2 minutes afterwards.

Both of us got the obligatory dose of the trots and upset stomachs, but neither of us expected to be suffering 5 days after eating dodgy sardines. Word of warning - do not eat in the restaurant on the seafront in Taghazoute owned by a silver-haired French women if you value the health of your intenstines. This advice was re-inforced by some of the local lads we came to know afterwards. Le Spot and La Bass I'd recommend.

If anyone is thinking of going drop me a pm and I'll be glad to pass on any other info I have.

Oh, and mpb - Chicken Joe does indeed rip! wink.gif biggrin.gif
