time for another holiday i think... damn the depressing weather dry.gif
originally 2/3 of us thinking of Morocco in november, but now 5 others have jumped on the bandwagon making 8 in total (yes, the locals are going to love us...
not an ideal situation but unavoidable it looks like...)

so to try counter the faux-pas of our possible invasion we are looking at surfcamps and also ease some of the logistics involved too, and came across Rapture surf-camp near Agidir, which works out reasonable enough at about €260 each...

so wondering if anyone has any experience of this particular camp, or indeed Moroccan surf-camps in general... or would better advise be go for an apartment/car rentals and split up?

There's a good review of a surf camp on irishsurfer.com

I went for the apartment/car rental option and had a great time. Just expect to have to pay off the feds now and again if your driving.

The breaks are easy to find (apart from Issuome (sp) which seemed to keep eluding me), and there are plenty of them within striking distance of Agadir.

If I had the money to spend I would certainly consider a surf camp, but I found it easy enough to travel around and find the breaks without one.

went to the rapture camp in ericia and it was not so good, six of us in an underground room with no ventilation about the size of a medium/large bathroom. An awful lot better than what the guides got though two sets of bunk beds in the wetsuit drying area.our transport to the break was a banjaxed old transporter that could only drive in 2nd and 3rd gear. Needless to say we didnt stay long we moved up to penich surf camp which was a1 tres bien

Always thought that surf camps/safari's were a good option if you were traveling on your own or in a small group.

2080 is way to much for a surf camp in my book

You should be able to get good apartments at Anchor point and car hire is quite cheap.

Good luck with the trip longboardirl/surfing.gif

Also its worth checking with the camp to see if they will drop you off and pick you up at the reefs.

And before I forget... pre-book your broads on the plane.

If 8 people turn up to a desk with boards you may not get them all on blink.gif

I actually found car hire to be expensive. Having said that we did rent from one of the major rental companies. You could rent a banger from the locals much cheaper but I felt I was taking my chances doing that as I knew we would be putting the miles on it.

About three winters ago, I wound up with a mate at rapture camp in tamhrat which is right beside taghazoute. The camp is NOT beside the surf, its located in a myriad of narrow, streets in a peculiar settlement on top of a steep hill. The camp was pleasent enough but your totally at the whim of the guides and most days they just went to killers and other average beaches.

One morn, the head guy aussie Josh, drove off with everyone in the camp but us and left us sitting for the day for no reason whatsoever. We were also getting serious cabin fever in the camp so that evening we bailed.

We luckily met up with some friends from home who had scored cheap, basic but nice accomodation in taghazoute just a few minutes walk from the breaks. They had also hired a car, so we were our own guides. The trip changed dramatically. everyday we were surfing where we wanted, when we wanted, and in the evening, eating moroccan food in the restaurants of taghazoute (Moroccan food is not actually that good, but anything tastes nice when your surfed out, happy, eating outside and feeling all arabic) instead of whatever Josh's girlfriend had cooked for the guests.

In short, I would say hire a car, find cheap accomodation (you can) and view Morocco through your own eyes, instead of through the windwos of a hostel/camp.

Check out Ben & Ollie at http://surfmaroc.co.uk/.
Decent accomodation in tarazoute (literally walk down the steps from the patio to paddle out at hash point). Anchors/Mysteries 10 minutes walk, killers 15. But they have 2-3 decent 4x4's to transport you to all the breaks anyway and are well clued in on other quieter spots, and up for doing dawnies. Food is excellent, and theres often foxy english girls staying there. Probably a bit dearer than the other spots but, well well worth it.
