the dora book is good so far. There are some interesting parallels with California in the 50s and the subsequent sell out/mass commercialization with whats happening here at the moment.

Hopefully we'll be in the middle of a recession and people will be digging spuds out of the ground with their bare hands rather than f*cking flooring it, Fintan, Dublin to Kerry 3.4 seconds. biggrin.gif

Hopefully the recession will kick in before the SUP boom kicks in. They are being marketed like there is no tomorrow at the moment. I have had one for about 6 months, They are very very difficult to surf, but easy to paddle. That's a very bad combination.

A lot of shops are marketing them and there are surf schools doing lessons.

Every mag seems to have a SUP supplement at the moment. There are now BIC and NSP sup. My local shop now has a few in stock.

They are fun to paddle, and a great workout. Also fun in fat waves that break & reform where a regular board sucks.

Unfortunately the Marketing machine is focussed on SUP this year.

It will bugger it up for everybody both on air travel and in the line-up as we'll all be tarred with the same brush. If the sup thing does happen, give it a few years and we will see councils banning all surfboards from certain areas.

I really hope I'm just blowing it out of all proportion.

Defo been a marked increase in the "Morketing" of sup boards. Its like all the mag editors got together and decided to start pushing them. As regards recession i doubt it, maybe "charlie haughey" tighter belts type economy for the next 2 years but i doubt ill be sowing spuds in the finest 4 acre field in crossmolina!

Yeah, Knox is flogging them too. Too much in common with goatboating for my liking.

I wouldnt be worried about the SUPs atall.
Most lads will probably try it and realise its bloody hard and give up.
As soon as there's any bit of size lads would be getting pummeled on them.
Plus you have to surf way out on the shoulder on them.
Any steepness or hollowness and they're useless.
Transporting them is a massive pain in the ass.
So on and so on.......

Ok so Laird and the boys are getting big barrels on em but the average surfer doesnt have anywhere near enough time to master it.

I'd give em a year and they'll all be gathering dust in garages. rolleyes.gif

That's some powerful shite he's talking.

Anyone with the skills to ride a SUP board probably has the brains not to kill anyone with it. Surely they're meant for the mush?

I'd be more worried about this kind of malarkey...
