Im pretty set on a single fin gun and a quad fish from mayo surfboards now, from what i have read on the net, his boards are of a great quality and go great. Im wondering about volan galss cloth on the fish, Is it heavier than normal glass and cloth and will it add much weight to the board? Anyone have experience of surfing a heavy fish type board? better or worse. thanks Mylo

I have a fish type 5'8 Aussie board and its as light as average shortboard.
do fish type boards go better when heavier than normal then, maybe handle size waves better?

IMHO - Yes.
More momentum. More weight to help get down the face of a wave. Helps to iron out a bit of chop.

makes sense.. my 5'8 isnt much use in anthing overhead, very good in onshore slop though! im off to florida in a month and will pick up my new quad fish from Larry mayo then. Im going for a slimmed down quad fish with a couple of inches more length than a trad fish, talking about 6,0 .20 1/4. tuck ins at the tail ..
thanks for the info

Just back from Florida, small waves and nice warm water. picked up quad fish from larry and she's a beauty. surprised at how old fashioned it actually is... really looks and feels the real deal apart from the quad fin set up with speed dialers.. hung out with larry for a while at his work shop and he is a craftsman for sure. Check out some photos .
