For those of you that have been over before I was gonna book a few nights in Kuta and then move south a short while after that once I've got my bearings and found the best spots for me.

Any info on Kuta or Legian??

I'm considering doing a week in Lombok as well, any experiences??

My advice to you is not to bother staying in Kuta at all.... go to Nusa Dua or Canggu, which ever is offshore in the time of the year you are there..
You can always jump in a cab (cheap as chips) for twenty mins to get to Kuta from either of these places if you want to surf Kuta reef or airports or even if you want the razz matazz that is Kuta by night.

Hear are two threads that might be of interest to you.

Hey mate

If ya want a night on the piss kuta is tops!
Hit the bounty and get on the jam jars and fishbowls!

when i was there 1 euro got ya 11,500 rp

Accom in kuta ranges from 50,000rp up to 500,000 rp for a top hotel.
the masa inn on poppies 1 is nice. think its about 150,000 a night - less than 15 euro.

Think we paid 150,000 between us per night in the hotl arena - off poppies 1 at thge mcdonalds end - nice enoughi heard the masa is nicer though ac pool...

oki house is cheap on poppies 2 no ac just ceiling fans
I'd splash out on a place with ac its humid as!

cant reall remember much about the beach at kuta.. think its best on low - mid (someone may want to correct me) but its fun but super crowed - (think superbank crowds) but theres peaks all over the place. think it closes out when there any major size to it.
kuta reef and airports are meant to be sick waves but didnt surf them while i was there.

If you want heavier waves head south down the bukit you can get cheap accom in dreamland which is right in between bingin and balangan.

Dreamland has a fat left ideal for loggin and an A-frame. quite popular with longboarders from aus actually.
Whe I stayed here i nicked off with the boys to impossibles most days while the girls strayed at dreamland.
cheap accomm from about 40,000 rp in 'andys warung'.
theres a twin room there so if ya get two of ya in there it cost ya fark all.
I stayed in 'dewi's' waraung with my girlfriend wnad we shared a double bed for 120,000 rp per night between us.

south of there is impossibles, padang and uluwatu lots of cheap places round there.
Theres a nice place at bingin with but i lcant remember the name. its pretty good and is about 130,000rp a night if you hassle with the host. she is pretty friendly cant rememebr her name. theres all stone paths and a hut with a dvd player and bean bags... and the rooms look WAY nicer than anything at dreamland.
just have to get up early to beat the crowds.

up north of kuta ya got canngu or further north bali-ann and medewi. nice long mellow rides ideal for logging. mind the sea urchins. buy a pair of reef booties.
spent some time at medewi and bali-ann. medewi is a cruisey place id recommend it.

lombok is a bit wierd. not so touristy which is nice but i found locals a bit wierd. they werent too friendly to my girlfriend and her mates- they were practically run out of one village they were hassled so much - dont think they get too many western white girls in the middle of lombok but sengiggi is a popular tourist resort. no real surf there that i saw though i heard that there can be a wave there at times.

I did a stay at ekas bay in south lombok - mission to get to but i styaed at a 'resort' called 'heaven on the planet' - glorified warung - quite nice though and fairly cheap. I was there for a conference and 3 people got bali belly and the squirts - not so nice

Waves there are great though. inside ekas is a fun right hander and outsides is a pumpin left hand barrell. resort has a boat and driver to take you out and save on the paddling out / crushing the live coral!

If you can goto banko-banko (desert pt) needs a big swell though. i got to sponge it when i did a boat trip a few years back. cant wait to have another crack at it on a stick!

boat trips - i went with pugsley - mobile 081 834 8186 or pugsleysurf@hotmail.com
he had an office down at uluwatu

this was a few yeares back (05) cost me 400 aussie bucks for 7 days went to lombok (desert pt) sumbawa and nusa lembongan.
sick sick sick waves. cost of petrol doubled a year later so i expect it will prbably cost you a lot more think lads paid 650 aussie last year about (400 euro)

'doggy the man' does boat trips but one of his henchmen was a dickhead to a few of us but aprt fromt hat dont know too much about him.

think thats all i can offer anything else pm me

have no expereince of east coast of bali as only did the west.

common theme for me it seems
