Learn to use a Fu##in sander!!!!

im fed up of fixing fu## ups from other so called ding repairers!!

example:
had a guy bring a board to me a few weeks ago for 2 new fin plugs he pulls the board out the bag and what do we have a fixed snap middle of the board and nose

middle: filled with white filler and glassed with around 5 layers of 6oz and hotcoated over not sanded!!! 2/8ths lump of cloth on the bottom!!

nose about the same but cloth showing all over!!!

ended up sanding it all down and reglassing and hotcoating now flat!!

if you fixed a blue al merrick you should be ashamed and this was one of the ding repairers the shops used!!!

i took a snapped board to a guy in tramore who said he'd fix it - he was saying he'd put 5 or 6 layers of six ounce around the middle of the board "that'd hold it good" he said. needless to say i took it home and fixed it myself. terrible feckin balls i made of it too. laugh.gif

(ps it wasn't a blue al merrick)

It beats me why people accept it. I only fix dings for friends and don't charge but it would piss me off for people to think that I done a half assed job on a repair. (I only do that on my own boards)

Have they no pride.

the funny thing was the guy had been riding it for a while and he thought that was normal for a repair job.

think thats why he now drives from middleton to drop his board to me

and for all you people who want to fix your own dings lidl have a sander on thursday!

and for the ding repairer get one too

and people who want boards repaired can you stop filling your dings with wax?

Nice one, thanks for the heads up.

Which would you say is the most useful? The Corner Sander or the Random Excenter Sander?

the random sander will do the perfect job the other wont cut resin very quick

and use tape instead of wax or the ding repairer will have to make the hole bigger to get all the wax out!!

not sure on the base width of the sander they are usually 5" or 6" if they are 5" pick up a couple of packs of the sanding pads as 5" pads are hard to get though you can just cut down 6" pads

Sound will do.

Now that we're on sanders, what's a reasonable price to pay for a decent belt sander in this country and could you recommend one?

Cheers glide! I just had a look at them and the pads are 6" ones

is it for use on surfboards? if so dont bother
and if you want it to last get a makita though expensive
also metabo are good my orbital sander has been through hell in the last 5 years!! biggrin.gif
parts are easy to get i keep thinking its gonna burn out and if it did where would i be back in the tool shop for another, pay out for the best the amount of times ive bought cheap tools and burned them out!!

that lidl sander will be fine for doing dings, but not for sanding full hotcoats
i once had my metabo go down and whilst waiting for parts, i bought a €80 sander as a backup 3 hrs later it was back in the shop for a refund i had melted the casing down through the motor they sent it back the company who made it said they had never seen so much damage! laugh.gif

So, don't go with a belt sander for shaping, go orbital?

The Lidl one I'm just picking up for small repairs.
