Got the following from a friend - would love to head down to this but cant!

Jaysus, the kids are playing some weird instruments these day, for example if
you were to venture down to ClubHeadBangBang this week, you will be treated to
Daedelus, the Ninja Tune artiste who will be winging it all the way from Los
Angeles. Daedelus is a pioneer of an instrument called a monome, which as an
instrument is little more than a load of buttons and lights, but he has got
some whack software on his laptop that makes it all worth while !!!

Playing support on the night is Vince Mack Mahon the Galway based band who
couldn't afford to buy guitars, drums or keyboards so they decided to play their
record players instead, and they still rock !

Just in case this isn't your cup of tae, there will probably be some ballad
crooning of some sort in the front bar.

Thursday 10th April The Greyhound [Back Bar]
Doors 9pm, Free Entry !

+---------------------------------------------------------------+

Daedelus will also be giving a guest lecture on Thursday evening at 4 in Tralee
IT, where he will be showcasing Monome technology and discussing his approaches
to composition, production and performance.
This talk will be taking place in the T116 Lecture Hall which is located in the
Business and IT building in the North Campus.

Tralee IT have kindly made this talk open to the public, but have asked if you
could email if you are interested in attending so they can keep track of
numbers [Bob.Jackson@staff.ittralee.ie]

+---Daedelus----------------------------------------------------+

Daedelus, the eccentric, electronic maestro of the Pacific is one of LA's most
daring new artists. This young musical romantic weaves together a true
"love-sound" that falls between honeyed melody and avant-electronics. Daedelus
chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of
staggering resonance. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike
arrangements from the 30's and 40's, he has refined a style that has no
imitators.

With a string of releases on Ninja Tune, Plug Research, Hefty, Tigerbeat 6,
Eastern Development, and Alpha Pup, he has created a sound that is entirely
new. His productions find the hidden common denominator between modern
electronics and sampled music from days gone by. Exactly the kind of music
you'd expect from a scarily well-connected hip hop nut who happens to dress in
Edwardian clothing and names himself after an Ancient Greek Legend.

Daedelus also incorporates hip-hop into his mix, with guest spots from
Busdriver, MF Doom, TTC, Mike Ladd, Absract Rude, Madlib, and High Priest
(Anti-Pop Consortium). His live show, which utilizes a custom-built sample
trigger device and software package, has amazed audiences across the US,
Europe, and Japan and secured his reputation as one of the most exciting
producers in electronic music.

Went to see this guy last Thursday and it was the bomb.....pure character. the monome box is an amazing piece of kit. The way he could cut and chop 4 or 5 samples at the same time was class. I would recommend seeing this guy...

I heard he played Limerick aswell !
Tears ! Should've gone.

The Monome thing is damn sweet. I managed to acquire the schematics of it. A guy at work here is big into electronics and all things solder-y.
He said he'll try take a stab at it.
Schweet.
